“Animals are my passion and the key to my heart,” Samantha says. “One beautiful spring night I was riding my horse at the barn in Concord, MA. I had left the riding ring and was just cooling my horse off around the woods. When I came around the corner of the barn, Kyle was down on one knee with a dozen roses. Our dog trotted over to me and on his collar was an engraved plate that read ‘Will You Marry Me?’ along with a stunning engagement ring around it! It was so perfectly me—simple and with all my animals around us as witnesses. I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal!”
The venue and theme
The great thing about super popular barn weddings this season is that no two seem to be alike. Samantha and Kyle’s wedding was no exception. Their day was picture perfect. Samantha says, “I have grown up owning horses and loving animals so very much. I wanted my day to be all about the natural bliss and beauty of nature. Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to get married at Zukas Hilltop Barn in Spencer, MA. The venue is so naturally gorgeous. Kyle and I also loved that the majority of the food served at the reception was grown right on site and sourced from local farms. That was important to us.
“Most of all, I wanted the wedding to be casual and comfortable for people. I kept all the colors neutral tones, as to not take away from the natural feel of the location.”
The wedding dress
“I went into VOWS thinking I wanted a strapless trumpet lace ball gown,” Samantha says. “I tried on multiple versions as well as some other styles, but nothing was quite right. I was about to call it quits for the day when Leslie, the store manager, came over and asked me what I was looking for. I told her I wanted ivory lace, but something different—something simple that would complement myself and the venue. She asked if she could pull something for me as she had the perfect dress in mind. Being a strong-willed, independent woman, I politely said yes. But I had convinced myself I wouldn’t like it. Then, Leslie came out with an absolutely stunning ivory lace A-line by Anna Maier Couture. I said it was beautiful but didn’t think an A-line was for me—but I did agree to try it on. I came out of the dressing room and it really was like time stopped. Everyone in the room looked over and we knew! It was comfortable and simply perfect. I had found my gown, with no doubt at all!”
