Summer Weddings: Pros and Cons

Summer weddings are and will always be a popular time of year to plan for your big day. The months of June, July and August are usually chalked full of weddings, so don’t forget to book your venue and reception space way in advance. Some popular areas may have a waiting list, so beware. As with any seasonal wedding, there are pros and cons to consider before you make your final decision. Below are some helpful things to keep in mind and help you in your decision.

Benefits to Having a Summer Wedding
There are many benefits to having a summer wedding, but beware… there are some downsides, such as high costs.

PROS

Lots of venue choices: Summer weddings lend themselves very well to just about any type of venue—especially outdoor choices. There are beach weddings, lakeside weddings, garden weddings, and much more. The possibilities are endless! Indoor venues are a good choice too.

Guest availability: Summer is the time of year when most people use their vacation time. This could work to your advantage for out-of-town guests. They can schedule their vacation time around the wedding with no hassle. Other times of the year might be more difficult to do this.

Climate: Depending on your location, the weather can be beautiful and simply perfect in the summer. Think early June, very early summer is always most popular.

Wedding gown selection: Summer wedding gowns are abundant! For the bride who likes to show a little skin the warmer months are perfect for selecting a wedding dress. Think strapless, halter styles—even shorter dresses. Materials such as chiffon and silk make for a lovely flowing look that brides just love.

CONS

High costs: Be prepared to shell out some cash when booking a summer wedding venue. Venues purposely raise their prices during these months simply because they can. Keep in mind that June is the most expensive month in which to reserve something. Also, be prepared to lay down some cash well in advance. Popular venues book up to a year in advance.

Climate: Yes, this is both a pro and con when it comes to weddings. Again, depending on your area, it could be perfect or it could be REALLY hot. This is something to keep in mind if you dream of an outdoor wedding. If you live in a part of the country that has steamy summers, you might want to think of having the event indoors with air conditioning.
