Barbara’s Favorite Fabrics for Wedding Gowns
Tulle is a favorite for those looking for a romantic and whimsical look. It is lightweight and airy, which is ideal for summer weddings. It can be classic as a full skirt ball gown or edgy as a textured trumpet. This Naeem Khan gown is made of silk tulle adorned with hand-stitched beading. The pleating in the skirt gives this gown great movement.
Organza is another beautiful lightweight fabric. It has movement and flows—yet has structure. This Jenny Lee gown is light as a feather yet still has the support to show off your shape.
Medium Weight Fabric—Shantung
Shantung is a versatile fabric known for its unique irregularities. Some might see these as an imperfection, but they are actually signs of quality. It has structure yet does not weigh you down.
Shantung is very popular for many of our New England brides. This Hayley Paige gown pairs an encrusted long-sleeve top with a full skirt made of Shantung. It’s so glamorous yet polished!
Medium Weight Fabric—Crepe
Crepe is one of our most-requested fabrics. It’s perfect for a bride looking for a “crisp” look but who still wants movement. Crepe has a lot of give and really can show off those curves. This Lazaro sheath sown is stunning! The lace and crepe are a perfect combination of sexy and sophisticated.
Guipure lace is definitely making a comeback! We love Guipure lace for it’s heavier weight and bold patterns. This Lazaro sheath gown is such a unique piece. The Guipure lace is eye catching yet the shape is so classic and flattering.
Satin is the epitome of elegance. It is known for the sheen and structure. There is some weight to the fabric, which adds to the richness. It is a favorite for those seeking a black-tie wedding. This Marchesa mermaid gown is perfect for the bride having a formal wedding. The elegance of the satin skirt pairs perfectly with heavily hand-beaded top. Rich and regal!
